Leading the Advancement in Knee Surgery
Research with British Association for Surgery of the Knee (BASK): dedicated to pioneering advancements in the field of knee surgery.

As the largest sub specialist organisation in the British orthopaedic Association, our members serve a substantial population of the UK with knee pathology. As such, we have a significant opportunity to advance the field of knee research as well as serve as advocates for our patients when the research funding is considered by organisations. Such organisations include:

  • NIHR
  • Musculoskeletal and orthopaedic charities
  • Collaborations with other international organisations

We are committed to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in knee treatment and surgery through rigorous scientific inquiry and clinical excellence.

Why Research Matters

Research is at the heart of medical advancement. It enables us to understand the complexities of knee pathologies better and refine surgical techniques to improve patient outcomes. Through ongoing research, we continually challenge the status quo and innovate new solutions that increase the efficacy, safety, and accessibility of knee surgery.

The Role of Our Members

The involvement of BASK members in our research initiatives is vital. Each member brings unique insights and experiences that are invaluable in shaping the direction and execution of our studies. By participating in research, our members contribute to a larger body of knowledge that not only enhances their own practice but also sets new standards in the field.

Patient-Centric Research

At the core of our research is a commitment to our patients. We ensure that every study and trial that we endorse all our members are involved in is designed with the goal of improving patient care. By investigating various aspects of knee health, from injury prevention and treatment to post-operative recovery, we ensure that our research has a direct and positive impact on patient outcomes.

Clinical Trials: A Call to Action

Clinical trials are a crucial part of medical research. They help us test new theories, treatments, and approaches in a controlled, ethical, and scientifically rigorous manner. Participation in clinical trials is essential for advancing our understanding and treatment of knee conditions. We encourage our members to engage in these trials, not only to contribute to the field’s growth but also to bring innovative treatments to their patients sooner.

Questionnaire surveys to BASK members.

We are happy to consider all requests for our surveys to our members. Our members are also sensitive to such requests as each survey takes significant amount of their precious time to complete. For this reason all surveys are considered by the research committee you Before being distributed to members. The main questions the committee considers our:

Is this survey going to lead to meaningful data publications or research?

s this survey merely an audit of current practice? Our members have made it clear that audits of current practice are generally time-consuming and systematic reviews are much more meaningful.

Is this survey going to lead to a significant large scale clinical trial?
